Tandem at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Bermuda

Day 9

Groeten uit Zandvoort Aan Zee, or greetings from Zandvoort on Sea, as we say in English.

Older readers will instantly have recognised Zandvoort as being the place where Ford's Cosworth DFV engine made it's debut at the Dutch GP in 1967, pushing Jimmy Clark to (his final?) victory and beginning a complete domination of grand prix racing that was to last until the early 80s. I've never seen a race track like it. It must be very tiring to drive; so many twists and turns and rises and falls, all crammed into a small strip of sand dunes. It really is right on the coast with just a main road and a sandy beach to kep it from the sea.

We have a weekend off, and I've never been to Zandvoort, and our next week of cycling starts from Schagen which is only an hour or so from here, so it seemed like a good opportunity to tick a famous place off the list. Poor Sarah.

Not much more to say, other than that it was absolutely baking here today
(27°C) so we're quite glad not to be out on the Tandem really. Weather is supposed to break tomorrow afternoon with rain coming up from the south, so we may be getting soggy again real soon. Ho hum.

Meanwhile here are a few pictures from today for those of you who like pretty racing cars:

These last few are all fom the SAME RACE, what the hell is going on?

More of the same tomorrow, then it's back to bicycles and windmills from Monday you lucky people...

  1. It wasn't so bad, apart from the wind, the sand, the dust, the noise, no food vans being open...
