Tandem at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Bermuda

Saturday 4 June 2011

day 7

This morning's hotel bedroom view:

The final leg of our 1st round trip, back to Geithoorn.  There was only a short ride today, mainly across open country roads so we were expecting some headwinds; it turned out not to be too bad though.

For those of you who have never been on a tandem, I took some video to give you an idea of the view from the back office...

The route notes today were terrible. They completely went off in their own direction telling us to turn right at a roundabout (and therefore taking us off the provided map) while the map clearly showed us going ahead at the roundabout and then left at the next junction!  After much head scratching we decided to follow the map as at least that way we knew where we were, even if the route notes thought we should be someplace else.  I suspect that we made a good choice as once the route notes caught up with us they still told us to "turn left after 0.2km" when it turned out to have been 2km.  I suspect that the planner of this route was different to previous ones as the usual reliance on mushrooms and posts seemed to be absent even though we passed many.

There ws a butterfly farm on the way back and we just can't help ourselves so we stopped and went in.  How many pictures of butterflys would you like?  Here is the best of the ones I took

After that stop we made it back to the Hotel de Harmonie and after a quick shower decided that the 28 miles we clocked up today was simply inadequate and hopped on again to go and eat pancakes along the canal.  Yum yum yum.
